Sustainable Tourism Online Course for Industry Professionals
The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Program (STTP) provides the knowledge and resources needed to help improve sustainability practices by tourism industry businesses and destinations. Built on the framework of the GSTC Criteria, the global baseline standards for sustainability in travel and tourism, the STTP training class will help you achieve tangible actions that fulfill the globally recognized standard of sustainability best practices.
Delivered as a 4-week-long facilitated and interactive training class, the sustainable tourism online course offers a convenient way to improve your sustainability skills in a flexible online learning environment, while at the same time learning alongside GSTC experts and fellow sustainable tourism practitioners.
Certificate in Sustainable Tourism
By completing this 4-week online training class of the STTP, you will meet the training requirement towards earning the GSTC Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
Once you complete the class, you will have have access to the official STTP Exam, and upon successful completion (75% and above passing mark is required), receive a Certificate in Sustainable Tourism by the GSTC to demonstrate your knowledge of sustainable tourism standards and practices.

GSTC Trainer: Antje Martins
Antje teaches at UQ Business School (The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia). Previously she worked as the Customer Service & Training Manager for EarthCheck – the world’s leading scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory group for travel and tourism. In this role, she manages the delivery of the EarthCheck suite of sustainability management products as well as EarthCheck training programs to more than 1,300 businesses across 70 countries. Her wealth of experience spans back 14 years across Germany, France and now Australia and has included work with major luxury hotel chains, airlines, food and beverage providers and market research companies.
Training development and delivery, speaking engagements and workshop facilitation has always been an integral part of her journey, including on-the-job training of new staff, facilitating climate change workshops, speaking at industry conventions and now managing the EarthCheck Training Academy. Antje is driven by her passion to reduce the impact of the tourism industry on its social, cultural and ecological environment through teaching how to achieve sustainable tourism outcomes for a more resilient and sustainable global visitor economy. She currently holds a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Tourism Management, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and has recently become a Certified Asia Pacific Visitor Economy Expert through PATA.
Randy Durband, GSTC CEO
Randy Durband has had two careers in travel and tourism – twenty-plus years in senior leadership positions at some of the finest U.S. tour operators, having served as President for Travcoa, INTRAV, and Clipper Cruise Lines, (brands within TUI Travel plc), plus Executive Vice President of Tauck World Discovery. Following that, in his second travel and tourism career, Randy advanced the work of Sustainable Tourism as an advisor, consultant, and speaker.
He brings his knowledge of the business of travel, his global network of travel professionals, and a passion for sustainability to support the GSTC and the general sustainable tourism movement. He has held several board positions and committee memberships in travel and tourism organizations, and is a frequent speaker on sustainable tourism issues.
Jeremy Sampson, Ecosystem Programme Communications Officer, IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation
Jeremy Sampson is a marketing, communications, and community engagement specialist with extensive experience in sustainable tourism, international development, and nonprofit management. He currently works with IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation at the cross-section of conservation and tourism, where he provides communications and management oversight for ecotourism projects. Other industry roles have included Vice President of Partnerships at international NGO Sustainable Travel International, President at leading eco-luxury operator GreenSpot Travel, and Adjunct Professor at the George Washington University’s International Institute of Tourism Studies.
Jeremy has a passion for supporting emerging businesses and communities to increase their competitiveness and protect natural and cultural resources through product development, compelling storytelling, and sustainable operational models.
Jeremy was previously the program lead for the Sustainable Travel Leadership Network, through which he organized and facilitated the first-ever Travel and Tourism Collective Impact Summit. He was also the marketing and communications lead for the Sustainable Destinations Alliance for the Americas (SDAA) and Mesoamerican Reef Tourism Alliance (MARTI), both LAC-focused regional initiatives.
Silvia Barbone, Director, Foundation for European Sustainable Tourism (FEST)
Silvia Barnone is an international expert in sustainable tourism with an extensive knowledge of the European tourism, cultural and social policies and funding. Silvia is the founder and the director of Jlag, as well as the founder and the director of FEST (Foundation for European Sustainable Tourism), and the developer and main author of PM4SD® (Project Management for Sustainable Development), a methodology for managing tourism projects with success and sustainability.
She is also the Managing Editor of Tourism Around Europe, a blog and an e-newsletter for tourism professionals and policy makers.
Diana Körner, Consultant, Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Foundation (SSTF)
Diana works as a freelance consultant in sustainable tourism for various stakeholders, such as the Institut de la Francophonie pour le Développement Durable (IFDD) and the Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Foundation (SSTF). Diana has a university background in Tourism Management (BA, IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, Austria & MSc, Skema Business School, France).
Having started in the hospitality sector, she joined the Coordination Office of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism at UN Environment, before working as an international consultant on sustainable tourism projects. Since 2016 she is based in Seychelles where she is helping to develop the SSTF, a Seychellois NGO which acts as a connecting platform for tourism stakeholders in Seychelles, facilitating partnerships and joint initiatives for sustainable tourism.

What’s Included
As part of your registration, you will receive training materials to be provided prior to the class; access to the online training platform; and a Certificate of Completion confirming your attendance in the class.
Please note: the STTP Exam fee (US$ 75 per person) is NOT included in the above course registration fee. If you would like to take the exam after the course, you can select the add-on option “Exam & Certificate” when you register, or you can also sign up for the exam afterwards.
