The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training sponsored by Hyuga City Experience-based Tοurism Creation Council (HTCC) for their tourism stakeholders in Hyuga City, Miyazaki, Japan, concluded successfully. The three-day training in Japanese was held from March 26 to 28th, 2024.
GSTC Trainer Dr. Mami Futagami, Emeritus Professor at Meijo University, led the training. She shared her knowledge and expertise with practical examples and valuable insights.
Under the guidance of a local fisherperson, participants experienced firsthand and learned about set-net fishing, a traditional fishing method more controlled for ocean resource management. They also strolled along the coastal trail to gain insight into how the coastal area has been preserved through the local environmental education program.
The HTCC aims to develop eco-tours that offer tourists authentic local lifestyle experiences in collaboration with the local stakeholders in the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries industries.
The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course provided participants with the essential knowledge and skills to champion sustainable tourism practices. It presented an excellent opportunity to delve into the GSTC Criteria the global standards for sustainability in tourism and travel. The inclusion of global and local case studies enhanced the value of the training.
Upon successful course completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to take an optional official exam to obtain the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
