GSTC’s General Manager, Roi Ariel and GSTC’s Market Development Manager, Rita Kuan were present at the Sustainable Tourism Core Talent Training organized by Taipei City Government – Department of Information and Tourism, which is being held from the 15th of October to the 20th of November, 2024 in Taipei, Taiwan.

Roi Ariel, GSTC General Manager spoke at the session titled “Global State of Sustainable Tourism and Its Implementation in Taiwan”, and provided a brief introduction of the development of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). He emphasized the importance of the GSTC Criteria, the global standards for sustainable tourism and travel. Mr. Ariel also gave an overview of the international development of sustainable tourism, highlighting its progress over recent years. Lastly, he discussed how Taiwan has responded to international sustainable tourism trends, and what could and should be done in the future.

Mr. Ariel expressed, “The hospitality sector in Taiwan has a crucial role to play in supporting achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. As the largest number of hotels are in Taipei, it was good to witness participants’ commitment and active application of sustainable practices in the hospitality sector.”

The session equipped participants with knowledge for advocating sustainable tourism practices, encouraging attendees to explore the GSTC Criteria in more detail.

Rita Kuan, GSTC’s Market Development Manager, will also speak to first-line managers and general participants on November 7th addressing key strategies for implementing sustainable practices within their organizations, as well as the challenges and opportunities they may encounter in driving positive change in the tourism industry.
