Rosewood Hotel Group has joined as a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
Rosewood Hotel Group is a leading global lifestyle and hospitality management group. It encompasses four brands: ultra-luxury Rosewood Hotels & Resorts; upper-upscale New World Hotels & Resorts; Asaya, an integrated well-being concept; and Carlyle & Co., a modern and progressive private members club. Its combined hotel portfolio consists of 54 hotels in 24 countries, with more than 30 new properties currently under development globally.
The Group’s guiding philosophy is “Relationship Hospitality”. This is the fundamental belief in delivering heartfelt experiences and building genuine relationships that make everyone feel they truly belong, from fellow associates and guests to partners and communities.
Impact and Sustainability Commitment
Rosewood Impacts is a group-wide roadmap that propels Rosewood Hotel Group towards creating a future where people and place enrich one another. Built on two key pillars — Rosewood Empowers and Rosewood Sustains — it defines the Group’s commitment to empowering people across the entire ecosystem through equal access to opportunity and to a sustainability approach that puts circular hospitality at the core of the business. The commitments include:
- Strengthening local economies through local hiring, sourcing, and partnerships
- Investing in local communities’ collective futures through education and upskilling
- Seeking talent from underserved and underrepresented groups
- Achieving a 70% waste diversion from landfills and incineration by the end of 2025
- Targeting a 25% reduction in energy use by the end of 2025
- Reducing water use by 25% by the end of 2025
- Eliminating 100% of guest-facing single-use plastics by the end of 2025
- Achieving 50% net zero by 2030, and 100% across our entire portfolio by 2050
Rosewood Hotel Group has recently obtained multi-site sustainability certification conducted by Bureau Veritas, a GSTC-Accredited Certification Body. Covering 47 properties across its three brands — Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, New World Hotels & Resorts, and Carlyle & Co. Twelve of these GSTC-certified* properties, spanning countries such as Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Laos., Mexico, New Zealand, Saint-Barthélemy, and British Virgin Islands — are among the first in their respective countries to receive this certification. The GSTC certification is a result of efforts steered by Rosewood Impacts, delivering the Group’s positive impact on all its communities and our shared planet, which reflects the Group’s ambition to become a purpose-led organization.
“We are delighted to join the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) as a member, aligning ourselves with like-minded industry leaders to embed impact and sustainability into our core operations. At Rosewood, we endeavor to create experiences that are exciting, meaningful, and elevated, yet responsible.
Also, the recent GSTC certification is a welcome endorsement that we are applying this enrichment lens across every facet of our business—from hiring and supply chain to partnerships and design.” Says Mehvesh Mumtaz Ahmed, Vice President of Impact and Sustainability, Rosewood Hotel Group.

About GSTC
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council® (GSTC®) establishes and manages global sustainable standards, the GSTC Standards, also known as the GSTC Criteria. The GSTC Destination Standard for public policy-makers and destination managers, GSTC Hotel Standard & GSTC Tour Operator Standard, GSTC MICE Standard for Venues, Event Organizers, and Events & Exhibitions, and the GSTC Attraction Standard for tourist attractions such as theme parks, museums, and national parks. These are the guiding principles and minimum requirements that any tourism business or destination should aspire to reach in order to protect and sustain the world’s natural and cultural resources while ensuring tourism meets its potential as a tool for conservation and poverty alleviation.
The GSTC Standards form the foundation for GSTC’s assurance role for Certification Bodies that certify hotels/accommodations, tour operators, and destinations as having sustainable policies and practices in place. GSTC does not directly certify any products or services but provides accreditation to those that do.
GSTC is an independent and neutral USA-registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that represents a diverse and global membership, including national and provincial governments, leading travel companies, hotels, tour operators, NGOs, individuals and communities – all striving to achieve best practices in sustainable tourism. The GSTC is an ISEAL Community Member, a global membership organization for ambitious, collaborative, and transparent sustainability systems.
