7) HEARTBEAT OF SINGAPORE TOUR
A specially curated experience that dives into the rich history and vibrant culture of Singapore’s Chinatown, designed with a sustainable twist for attendees of the Global Sustainability Tourism Council (GSTC) conference.
On this 3-hour walking tour, we’ll stroll through Chinatown’s bustling streets. You’ll gain insight into how Singaporeans live, work, and play—and how these practices have evolved over time. We’ll admire the beautifully preserved historic shophouses, a nod to Singapore’s colonial past and also tell you about the country’s commitment to architectural conservation. Alongside these heritage buildings, we’ll explore the story behind Singapore’s public housing model, which has played a transformative role in urban planning, allowing for both growth and social cohesion.
No visit to Chinatown would be complete without an introduction to Singapore’s beloved hawker culture, recognized as an Intangible UNESCO World Heritage. You’ll learn about the preservation of traditional foods and flavors, which reflect our multicultural society while also promoting cultural sustainability. As part of this immersive experience, you’ll get to sample a local snack and savor a traditional drink, tasting the flavors that generations of Singaporeans have cherished.
