The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) recently held a significant training event in Petra, Jordan, from the 4th to the 6th of September, 2023 in collaboration with Nastadeem/EcoHotels, with support from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency.
Nabil Tarazi, Nastadeem/EcoHotels Founder & CEO said: “We are proud to have partnered with the GSTC as their trainers in the Arab World. Having translated the GSTC Criteria into Arabic, the first Arabic-language training program ever conducted was a great success, with very positive feedback from the trainees.”
The 21 trainees who participated were from a diverse background in the tourism industry in Petra: hotels, tour operators, guides, local community organizations and staff from the DMO, the Petra Development & Tourism Region Authority.
The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course aimed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and tools to implement sustainable tourism principles in their operations. The Authorized GSTC trainers who led the course in Arab language were: Mr. Nabil Tarazi, Ms. Rawan Atallah, and Ms. Lina Al-Khaled from Nastadeem/EcoHotels.
The course offered an excellent opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about the GSTC Criteria and sustainable tourism practices. It included examples of best practices from destinations, tour operators, and accommodation providers around the globe.
Upon successful course completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to take an optional official exam to obtain the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
