The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course sponsored by Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. for their employees and stakeholders, held from the 19th to the 21st of June, concluded successfully. A total of 28 participants successfully attended the training in Tokyo, Japan. The course was led by GSTC Trainer Mami Futagami, Dr. Professor Emeritus at Meijo University.
“It was a rewarding experience to facilitate the training for a group of dedicated professionals from JAL, the leading airline company in Japan, and its affiliated Okura Nikko Hotels. They have already made progress in implementing their SDGs policy and practices. Thus, I am assured that having learned GSTC criteria will further fortify their sustainability practice,” said GSTC Trainer Dr. Mami Futagami.
The class also visited The Royal Park Hotel Tokyo Haneda to learn more about its barrier-free rooms, plastic-free initiatives, energy-saving practices, and waste reduction efforts. Additionally, they toured Haneda Airport to explore its universal design, Eco-Airport initiatives, Edo Koji cultural area, and the departure area.
The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course equipped participants with indispensable knowledge and skills essential for advocating sustainable tourism practices. It served as an immersive experience, allowing attendees to explore the GSTC Criteria, which are recognized globally as the standards for sustainability in tourism and travel.
Upon successful course completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to take an optional official exam to obtain the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
