GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Tokyo, Japan sponsored by JTB CorpThe GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course was sponsored by JTB Corp for its employees who came from Hokkaido, Tokyo, Kansai, and Fukuoka. It was held in Tokyo, Japan, from the 19th to the 21st of February, 2025. A total of 20 participants attended the training, and GSTC Trainer Kazuhiro Arai, Representative of Daisetsuzan Nature School, led the course. 

The training covered the GSTC Criteria, the global standards for sustainability in travel and tourism and provided participants with insights into best practices for responsible and sustainable management. Through presentations, real-world case studies, and interactive discussions, participants examined practical ways to integrate sustainability practices into their daily work.

As part of the training, participants took part in a field visit to the Hotel New Otani Tokyo, where they gained firsthand insights into its sustainable practices; they also visited the Sumida Aquarium to learn about practical efforts to minimize environmental impact, such as wastewater treatment, as well as animal welfare.

“This training program has equipped participants with clear, actionable insights on how they can enhance their daily operations, all aligned with the GSTC Criteria,” said Mr. Arai. 

Upon successful course completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to take an optional official exam to obtain the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
