The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course, sponsored by the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA), held in Tokyo, Japan, between the 13th and 15th of May 2024, concluded successfully. GSTC’s General Manager, Roi Ariel, was present at the training along with GSTC’s Market Development Manager, Rita Kuan, and spoke about the importance of the GSTC Criteria, the global standards for sustainability in tourism and travel.

The 25 participants toured the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo, where they observed various hotel initiatives related to sustainability and received an explanation of the importance of certification. Also, as part of the site visit, they went to Hibiya Park, discovering ongoing sustainability efforts in urban green spaces. Additionally, they experienced the Hinomaru Bus Corporation’s Skybus Ride, where they learned about the company’s sustainability initiatives and commitment.

The training was led by Kazuhiro Arai, Representative of Daisetsuzan Nature School, who shared their knowledge and expertise with practical examples and valuable insights and provided the participants with the essential knowledge and skills to champion sustainable tourism practices and learn in-depth about the GSTC Criteria. The inclusion of global and local case studies enhanced the value of the training.
