The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course sponsored by Vorarlberg State Tourism Board held from the 22nd to the 23rd of August, 2024 in Austria, concluded successfully. A total of 19 participants successfully attended the training held at the Hittisau Women’s Museum.
The course was led by GSTC Trainers Holger Sigmund and Dr. Michaela Hölz.
Participants had the opportunity to visit Krone Hittisau and were given a spontaneous guided tour by the owner, who talked about how the Hotel is certified by the Austrian Ecolable, a GSTC- Recognized Standard for hotels.
“For me this was a very special GSTC-Training because I have been working in tourism in this region for 20 years and we had a perfect mix of people from different sectors such as hotels, the local DMOs and Associations as the Austrian “Holidays on the farm”. I also loved that Dietmar Nussbaumer, a local hotelier who’s hotel ‘Krone Hittisau’ I always show as a best practice for section C of the GSTC criteria “Cultural sustainability” attended the training and spontaneously gave us a tour through his lovely home village and hotel design and operation,” said Mr. Sigmund.
The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course equipped participants with indispensable knowledge and skills essential for advocating sustainable tourism practices. It served as an immersive experience, allowing attendees to explore the GSTC Criteria, which are recognized globally as the standards for sustainability in tourism and travel.
Upon successful course completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to take an optional official exam to obtain the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
