The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) partnered with Cappadocia University (KUN), in Nevşehir – Ürgüp, Türkiye, for their Sustainable Tourism Management Graduate Program.
The online training was given within the scope of a course about the GSTC Criteria in the Spring semester of the Sustainable Tourism Master’s program for 3 hours a week for more than three months (from October 3rd, 2023, to the 7th of January 2024) and was led by GSTC Trainer Dr. Mehmet Bahar, Associate Professor at Cappadocia University, who shared his knowledge and expertise with practical examples and valuable insights.
“For 14 weeks, the GSTC Industry Criteria and Destination Criteria were examined in detail. Good practices were shared with the students throughout the course. Students’ understanding of the subject was reinforced with workshops organized during the course,” said Dr. Bahar.
The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course provided participants with the essential knowledge and skills to champion sustainable tourism practices. It presented an excellent opportunity to delve deep into the GSTC Criteria the global standards for sustainability in tourism and travel.
Thanks to this cooperation with Cappadocia University, more than 200 people have already completed the GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course in KUN, including those enrolled in the graduate programs.
Upon successful course completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to take an optional official exam to obtain the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
