GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training in Akita, Japan, 4-5 February 2017
The Asian Ecotourism Network (AEN), a GSTC Training Partner, in collaboration with Ecotourism Japan, organized a GSTC training class from 4-5 February 2017, in conjunction with the 3rd Sustainable Tourism Forum in Senboku City, Akita, Japan (6-7 February 2017).
With examples from both within Japan and around the world, the training class covered key insights into the GSTC Criteria, the global baseline standard for sustainability in travel and tourism. This training class was led by the GSTC Trainers Kazuhiro Arai and Masaru Takayama.
Following the Forum, GSTC training participants participated in a local excursion highlighting culture and winter ecotours.

About Ecotourism Japan
Ecotourism Japan (EJ) is a non-profit organization working to establish a nationwide network of tour operators, researchers, and professionals, with the aim of revitalizing local communities through ecotourism. To promote ecotourism, EJ supports local communities and tour operators and disseminates information and tips on ecotourism, nature-based tours and conservation to encourage more people to learn about ecotourism. EJ hosts the Japan Office of AEN.

The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Program (STTP) offers practical insights and effective steps to help you improve your sustainability practices. With the aim of strengthening awareness of sustainable tourism in destinations around the world, the training program covers global trends in sustainable tourism and sustainability best practices for businesses and destinations.
Designed as a intensive and interactive training experience led by expert GSTC Trainers, STTP training classes are offered throughout the year, and provide two options for completing the training requirement towards earning the GSTC Certificate in Sustainable Tourism:
- Onsite 3-day training classes (Face-to-face training classes offered throughout the year in various locations around the world).
- Online 4-week training classes (Online scheduled training classes led by GSTC trainers, available at least 4 times a year).
