A new White Paper on Tourism has been drafted for the Norwegian Parliament, “Meld. St. 19 (2016–2017) Opplev Norge – unikt og eventyrlig (Experience Norway – Unique and Incredible)” with referral to the use of the GSTC Criteria.
Under the chapter on sustainability, there is a text about “Sustainable Destination” and the importance of aligning the scheme to an international level.
In the text, it is mentioned that the local Norwegian Criteria is adapted to the Criteria for sustainable tourism from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (the GSTC Criteria). Later, it is written that this is due to the aim of an international recognition of the Standard.
This is due to the involvement of Innovation Norway, a long-time GSTC member, in drafting the white paper.
GSTC Members can learn more of Sustainable Norway and its Destination Criteria by watching the recorded webinar “Norway: Sustainable Destination” by Ingunn Sørnes, Special Adviser at Innovation Norway, GSTC Board Member.
