On November 15-17, 2018, the «International Summit: Cultural Sustainable Destinations without Borders» was organized by the GSTC Member Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI) and Historical Villages of Portugal.
The summit aimed at discussing, reflecting on and raising awareness of a common policy directed to alternative destinations. «The absence of a concrete definition for an alternative destination leads to the difficulty of creating a common understanding. In this context, and in order to mark out the framework of the discussion, it is, therefore, necessary to outline and define the term «Alternative Tourism» as focus on the panels that set the summit.»
GSTC Chair, Mr. Luigi Cabrini, participated in the inaugural session, along with President of the Municipality of Idanha-a-Nova, Mr. Armindo Jacinto; President of the Board of Directors of the Aldeias Históricas de Portugal, Mr. António Robalo; Director of the Development & Innovation Department, Turismo de Portugal, Ms.Teresa Ferreira; and Chairman of the Responsible Tourism Institute, Mr Tomás Azcárate.
Mr. Cabrin also moderated the session «Best Practices of the Application of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to Global Tourism and the Sustainability» where GSTC Member Ms. Lonneke de Kort, CEO of Bookdifferent.com spoke as well.
