GSTC Chair Luigi Cabrini participated in the ENTRUST International Conference on the 7th of February 2024, held in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel, Buncrana, in Donegal, Ireland.
The International Conference opened with a welcoming speech from Alison McGonagle, ENTRUST Project Coordinator, Mary Daly from Go Visit Donegal, and Joan Crawford from Failte Ireland.
Mr. Cabrini presented “Global Standards for Sustainable Tourism,” where he talked about the importance of meeting sustainability standards, why the GSTC Criteria (the global standard for sustainable travel and tourism) are essential and made an emphasis on the value of training as an important asset when navigating the sustainability path. He also spoke about the importance of being GSTC-Certified by a GSTC-Accredited Certification Body, and the efforts made by several GSTC Members on their sustainable journey such as TUI, Booking.com, easyjet holidays, or Singapore Tourism Board.
Luigi Cabrini also shared the latest data of Booking.com 2023 Sustainable Travel Report, which states that 76% of travelers express a desire to travel more sustainably and environmentally-conscious habits are growing in popularity among other insights.
Finishing his keynote Mr. Cabrini invited the participants to the next GSTC Global Conference that will be held in Stockholm, Sweden, from the 23 to the 26th of April, 2024.
At the end of the session, the participants showed their interest in the work of the GSTC during the question and answer session. There was high interest in current practical cases of sustainability in destinations, where Mr Carbini talked about the groundbreaking national program of Türkiye.
Along with Mr. Cabrini, there were other speakers at the Conference such as Patrício Azcarate, General Secretary at RTI, Prof. Nuno Abranja, and Mary Daly from Go Visit Donegal, among others.
