The International Conference “Sustainability: A key factor of Competitiveness in the Tourism Industry” (STINDUSTRY2017) was held in Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote (Canary Islands), on 19 and 20 October 2017. GSTC was among the international tourism organizations that have participated as speakers, with Mr. Luigi Cabrini, GSTC Chair, gave a talk about “Global Criteria for Sustainable Tourism”.
STINDUSTRY2017 was organized by the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI) and the Society for the Foreign Promotion of Lanzarote (SPEL). The event was sponsored by UNESCO, UNWTO and has the support of the Secretary of State for Tourism of Spain, and of the sector and main international organizations involved in the promotion of more sustainable tourist destinations.
The meeting’s aim was to set a series of decisive recommendations and precise goals regarding the contribution of the Tourism Industry to the United Nations SDG, following the guidelines of the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism ST+20 adopted in 2015 in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
