GSTC at the International MICE Summit in Saudi Arabia

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) participated in the International MICE Summit (IMS) held in Mohammed Bin Salman Nonprofit City in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from December 15 to 17, 2024. The Saudi Conventions and Exhibitions General Authority (SCEGA) hosted the event. 

With a three-day interactive program that featured plenary sessions, panel discussions, innovation clusters, and exhibitions, the IMS provided attendees with opportunities for networking and collaboration.

GSTC Chair Luigi Cabrini and CEO Randy Durband, addressed key issues related to sustainability in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. In a keynote address, Mr. Cabrini emphasized the importance of applying sustainability standards to improve the resilience and global competitiveness of the MICE industry, announcing the recent release of the GSTC MICE Criteria

Mr. Durband joined a panel on Sustainable MICE and shared actionable strategies for minimizing the environmental and social impacts of large-scale events and spoke of the imperative for more sustainable forms of MICE programs.

The summit brought together experts, industry leaders, and policymakers to discuss innovative solutions and best practices for a more sustainable MICE industry. Topics ranged from Amplifying the Economic Impact of the MICE Market and Innovating Exhibitions to Designing Tomorrow’s MICE Destinations.

The event highlighted the increasing importance of sustainability in shaping the future of the MICE industry and the essential role of collaborative efforts in achieving long-term progress.
