Sustainability Commitment

constellarWith a clear target to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, Constellar was a signatory of the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative organized by the Joint Meetings Industry Council in 2022. Through this commitment, they continue to address climate change as part of the global ecosystem.

Singapore EXPO continues to invest in and innovate venue-wide green initiatives as Asia’s most sustainable MICE venue powered by onsite renewable energy. The venue is presently home to Singapore’s largest single-site solar rooftop installation, featuring a total of 16,508 solar panels which is the size of eight football fields. The system is able to generate enough energy to power 4,000 3-room apartments for a year and will enable events at the venue to be powered by renewable energy where possible. Since the system’s installation, the venue has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 30% and cut electricity consumption by more than half.

Supporting the country’s Net Zero emissions goal, Singapore EXPO continues to reinforce its infrastructure and partnerships to support sustainable travel to the venue. It is also home to the largest Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station in Eastern Singapore.

It also houses various on-site herb gardens that enable a farm-to-table culinary philosophy, alongside the venue’s collaboration with suppliers and local partners who advocate for sustainable farming as well as ecofriendly food packaging.

About GSTC

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council® (GSTC®) establishes and manages global sustainable standards, known as the GSTC Criteria. There are three sets: Destination Criteria for public policy-makers and destination managers, Industry Criteria for Hotels and Tour Operators, and MICE Criteria for Venues, Event Organizers, and Events & Exhibitions. These are the guiding principles and minimum requirements that any tourism business or destination should aspire to reach in order to protect and sustain the world’s natural and cultural resources while ensuring tourism meets its potential as a tool for conservation and poverty alleviation.

The GSTC Criteria form the foundation for GSTC’s assurance role for Certification Bodies that certify hotels/accommodations, tour operators, and destinations as having sustainable policies and practices in place. GSTC does not directly certify any products or services, but provides accreditation to those that do.

GSTC is an independent and neutral USA-registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that represents a diverse and global membership, including national and provincial governments, leading travel companies, hotels, tour operators, NGOs, individuals and communities – all striving to achieve best practices in sustainable tourism. The GSTC is an ISEAL Community Member, a global membership organization for ambitious, collaborative, and transparent sustainability systems.
