The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course provides the knowledge and tools needed to help improve sustainability practices in travel and tourism. The training covers the GSTC Criteria, the global standards for sustainability in travel and tourism, and provides best practices for businesses and destinations.

With an in-depth understanding of the GSTC Criteria, you will be able to make informed decisions on how to implement sustainability practices for your company or destination, and be ready for developing actionable sustainable tourism policies and practices for your organization.

The two-day in-person training class combines trainer presentations, group discussions and exercises with hands-on learning opportunities, focused on practical insights into the GSTC Industry Criteria and the GSTC Destination Criteria, and tangible action steps to applying the Criteria.

Exam and Certificate

Sustainable Tourism CourseBy completing this 2-day training class, you will meet the training requirement towards earning the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.

Once you complete the course, you will have the option to take the GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training Exam. The exam takes place online, and you will have 4 weeks after the course to submit it. If you pass the exam (80% and above passing mark is required), you will receive a Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism by the GSTC. The certificate demonstrates your knowledge of sustainable tourism standards and practices.

GSTC Trainer

Kingston Khoo

Kingston holds over 20 years of tourism experience, a bachelor’s in technology management from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and is a licensed tourist guide. He is the Co-founder and CEO of Dusky Leaf Adventures, a tour company that specializes in experiential and community-based tours in Malaysia. He is also the president of Eco-STEPS Malaysia (Sustainable Tourism & Environmental Protection Society), an NGO that champions sustainable tourism in Malaysia. His fervor for sustainable and regenerative tourism and its role in preserving Malaysia’s rich natural and cultural heritage, prompted him to look at tourism and hospitality in a more holistic way. His previous roles include being Group Head of Marketing for Tradewinds Hotels & Resorts, Director of Sales & Marketing of Mutiara Taman Negara and Senior Product Development Manager for Discovery Overland Holidays. Through these roles, he has gained profound insights into how sustainable tourism enriches the experiences of travelers, benefits local communities, contributes to positive social and environmental impacts and improves the triple bottom-line of companies.

This training fee is 395USD and it is offered only in conjunction to the GSTC2024 Singapore conference. To register to the course, please select the ‘2-day pre-conference training’ as an add-on when registering to the conference here.

What’s Included

  • As part of your course registration, you will receive training materials to be provided before the course; lunch and coffee breaks during the training days; and a Certificate of Attendance confirming your attendance in the class.
