B&B Hotels’ 2023 Sustainability Report, offers a comprehensive overview of the company’s initiatives to integrate sustainability into its operations.
On page 33 of the Report, Camilla Garcia-Quijano, Co-Chair of B Lab France, and Roi Ariel, General Manager of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), share their thoughts on how certifications are pushing the industry to find innovative ways to meet travelers’ expectations and benefit communities and the planet.
Driving Sustainability Through Action
B&B Hotels has established its sustainability strategy grounded in three pillars: Empowering Everyone, Adapting to Our Environment, and Continuous Innovation Together.
Highlights from the 2023 report include:
- Environmental Stewardship: Achieving 78% renewable electricity usage and maintaining a remarkably low carbon footprint of 1kg CO2 per room, among the lowest in the industry. Efforts include eliminating single-use plastics in rooms and installing water-saving technologies.
- Green Building Certification: Over 670 hotels have received sustainability certifications aligned with GSTC Criteria, affirming their commitment to credible and transparent practices.
- Smart Mobility: With 31% of eligible hotels equipped with EV charging stations, B&B Hotels is on track to reach 100% by 2025, supporting the transition to low-carbon transportation.

- Certification Alignment: 670 of its hotels across all countries have received sustainability certification by Socotec designed for the hospitality industry and aligned with GSTC Criteria.
- Community Engagement: The company collaborates with local stakeholders and international organizations to drive positive change, from environmental conservation efforts to social inclusion programs.

- B&B Academy: A program that offers education and job training to underserved communities, promoting social mobility and fostering a new generation of hospitality professionals.
- Circular Economy and Biodiversity: Pilot programs address waste reduction, biodiversity restoration, and the development of eco-designed hotels, further embedding sustainability in operations.
