Radisson Hotel Group has joined as a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)
Radisson Hotel Group continues to drive forward the hospitality industry’s sustainability agenda and support the ongoing development of integrated sustainable tourism practices by joining the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).
Radisson Hotel Group has made substantial strides to drive change in response to climate change, towards sustainability, renewable energy, green building design, green mobility, and the establishment of the Hotel Sustainability Basics to target Net Zero Hospitality by 2050.
As part of its commitment to being a sustainable and responsible hotel group, Radisson Hotel Group is now joining the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). The GSTC strives to be an agent of change in the world of sustainable travel and tourism by fostering the increased knowledge, understanding, adoption and demand for sustainable tourism practices.
Inge Huijbrechts, Global Senior Vice President Sustainability, Security and Corporate Communication, Radisson Hotel Group, says: “At Radisson Hotel Group, we believe the best way to achieve concrete results and move the industry on the path to Net Zero by 2050 is to work alongside global partners and industry bodies, such as the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. Sustainability is not competitive but rather collaborative, together we can aim to help solve global issues we all face. We look forward to working with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council and its partners to align our strong criteria to reach Net Zero emissions latest by 2050.”
Earlier this year at the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC)’s Global Summit held in Manila, Radisson Hotel Group, together with other brands, associations and destinations in the industry, launched the Hotel Sustainability Basics, a coordinated set of basic actions that hotels should implement as a minimum at the beginning of their sustainability journey. It highlights twelve actions which are fundamental to hotel sustainability. Radisson Hotel Group was a leading supporter and driving force behind the establishment of the Hotel Sustainability Basics.
During this year’s COP27 in Egypt, Radisson Hotel Group reaffirmed its strong commitment to sustainability by signing the Glasgow Declaration and encouraging other hospitality groups to join the call for strong actions to halve emissions over the next decade and reach Net Zero emissions as soon as possible before 2050.
The Group also remains committed to its corporate responsibility targets as outlined in its strategic plan for 2020 – 2025. These targets align with and contribute to the hotel industry 2030 focus areas, defined by the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance and to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In September this year, Radisson Hotel Group received confirmation and validation of its near-term Science Based Targets (SBTs) aligned with its commitment to be Net-Zero by 2050. Targets include reducing carbon and water footprint by 30% by 2025, removing single-use plastics, and continuing to drive best practices in responsible consumption behaviors. The focus on responsible business practices is also reflected in the Group’s commitment to promote and enhance human rights within its sphere of influence, in its operations and the supply chain. As a company Radisson Hotel Group will continue its engagement creating shared value in communities in the areas of Food, Shelter and better Futures, especially for children and youth-at-risk. Working with key industry stakeholders, Radisson Hotel Group collaborates to demonstrate positive impact for the wider hospitality industry, creating further opportunities for a more sustainable future.

About the GSTC
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council® (GSTC®) establishes and manages global sustainable standards, known as the GSTC Criteria. There are two sets: Destination Criteria for public policy-makers and destination managers, and Industry Criteria for hotels and tour operators. These are the guiding principles and minimum requirements that any tourism business or destination should aspire to reach in order to protect and sustain the world’s natural and cultural resources while ensuring tourism meets its potential as a tool for conservation and poverty alleviation.
The GSTC Criteria form the foundation for GSTC’s assurance role for Certification Bodies that certify hotels/accommodations, tour operators, and destinations as having sustainable policies and practices in place. GSTC does not directly certify any products or services, but provides accreditation to those that do. The GSTC is an independent and neutral USA-registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that represents a diverse and global membership, including national and provincial governments, leading travel companies, hotels, tour operators, NGOs, individuals and communities – all striving to achieve best practices in sustainable tourism.
