

The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course, sponsored by Sapporo City for their employees and stakeholders, concluded successfully. A total of 23 participants successfully attended the training held from the 12th to the 14th of November in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. The sessions were led by GSTC Trainer Kazuhiro Arai, a Representative of Daisetsuzan Nature School.
Participants had the opportunity to visit The Royal Park Canvas Sapporo Odori Park to explore its sustainability-conscious development. As Japan’s first high-rise hybrid timber hotel, the property showcased its innovative use of locally sourced Hokkaido timber, highlighting its commitment to sustainable construction. During the visit, attendees gained insights into the hotel’s approach to promoting local production for local consumption through events centered around food, clothing, shelter, and the unique Hokkaido lifestyle. The experience provided valuable perspectives on integrating sustainability into hotel operations while fostering a deeper connection with the local culture and community.


The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course equipped participants with essential knowledge and skills for advocating sustainable tourism practices; allowing attendees to explore the GSTC Criteria, the global standards for sustainability in tourism and travel.
Upon successful course completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to take an optional official exam to obtain the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
