The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Training in Tokyo concluded successfully

Tricolage, in collaboration with the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau, sponsored the GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course for their tourism stakeholders in Tokyo, Japan.  The training was held from the 3rd to the 5th of December, 2024, and was led by GSTC Trainer Kazuhiro Arai, Representative of Daisetsuzan Nature School, who shared his knowledge and expertise with practical examples and valuable insights. 

Attendees had the opportunity to visit the Asakusa View Hotel Annex Rokku, where they explored the hotel’s efforts to preserve and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the historic town of Asakusa. The visit also highlighted the hotel’s commitment to sustainability, with an emphasis on its responsible operational practices.

Participants also had the chance to explore Nakamise Street and Senso-ji, iconic landmarks deeply rooted in Asakusa’s cultural heritage. The visit aimed to inspire and show how the creation of travel products can actively involve local artisans, fostering a deeper connection between visitors and traditional crafts. Additionally, it sought to raise awareness of the region’s rich cultural traditions while promoting economic ripple effects that benefit the local community.

The GSTC Sustainable Tourism Course provided the 21 attendees with the essential knowledge and skills to champion sustainable tourism practices. It presented an excellent opportunity to delve into the GSTC Criteria, the global standards for sustainability in tourism and travel. The inclusion of global and local case studies enhanced the value of the training.

Upon successful course completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and become eligible to take an optional official exam to obtain the GSTC Professional Certificate in Sustainable Tourism.
