The National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC) of Fiji National University hosted a workshop in collaboration with the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) from October 3rd to October 6th, 2023. This three-day event was held at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi, and it focused on « The Green Tourism Certification Framework, » exploring sustainable tourism practices, environmental conservation, green certification standards, and eco-friendly initiatives.
The opening of the event was done by Assistant Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation: Alitia Bainivalu.
Dr. Mihee Kang, GSTC Assurance Program Director & Asia-Pacific Program Director, led a session on “How to recognize what is sustainable tourism” and talked about the GSTC Criteria, the global standards for travel and tourism and the certification process.
With a total of 21 participants from 10 Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) members comprising of Fiji, India, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand and Vietnam were a part of this Workshop on the Green Tourism Certification Framework; which goals were to explain productivity improvement at the community level by introducing green tourism, learn the best practices of green tourism certification schemes and discuss the framework for a potential APO green tourism certification framework at organizational level.
Also, 15 International delegates of Asian Productivity Organization’s (APO) member countries with 5 local participants visited TIFAJEK Mud Pool & Hot Spring in Sabeto, as part of their workshop on the Green Tourism Certification Framework. Participants were there to learn and observe the effective implementation of green and sustainable tourism practices. They also visited our FNU Nadi campus. Dr. Kang participated in this visit as well.
