March 2017 – GSTC Member and GSTC Criteria Early Adopter, Riverwind Foundation’s Jackson Hole & Yellowstone Sustainable Destination Program, is one of three finalists for the Destination Leadership category of the 2017 National Geographic World Legacy Awards. The awards were presented at ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel trade show, on March 8, 2017.
«Teton County, Wyoming, also known as Jackson Hole and the southern half of Yellowstone, is very pleased to have been selected by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council to participate in its first Early Adopter Program for sustainable tourism destination criteria,» says Riverwind Foundation Executive Director Timothy O’Donoghue.
«Our participation in the GSTC’s program not only provided us with an objective evaluation and baseline of how sustainable our destination was, but served as a catalyst for further improvement and innovation, including the creation of the Jackson Hole & Yellowstone Sustainable Destination Program in 2013. Four years later, Jackson Hole was selected by National Geographic as one of three Finalists for the World Legacy Award for Destination Leadership out of over 100 applicants from 45 countries. The GSTC deserves a lot of credit for our destination now being recognized as one of the world-leading sustainable destinations.»
